§ iAbout David A. Yergey III
David A. Yergey III is the Managing Partner of Yergey & Yergey, P.A., a fourth-generation Orlando law firm in continuous practice since 1928. He represents individuals, families, and fiduciaries in probate administration, estate planning, guardianship proceedings, trust administration, and contested estate and trust litigation in the Orange County Circuit Court and courts throughout Central Florida.
D3 holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation from the University of Alabama School of Law — a credential that the majority of Florida probate and estate planning attorneys do not hold. That graduate-level tax training directly informs the estate planning and trust administration work he does for clients navigating complex asset structures, estate tax exposure, and multi-generational wealth transfers. He also holds a J.D. from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law (2014) and dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Finance and Information Systems from the University of Florida (2011).
Beyond client representation, D3 has served the Florida legal community as a Former Adjunct Professor of Wills & Trusts at Florida A&M University College of Law, as Founding President of the Florida Guardianship Support Network (flgsn.org), and through sustained leadership in the Orange County Bar Association — including four terms as Chair of the OCBA Estate, Guardianship & Trust Committee. He is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Court Mediator, a Florida-licensed Real Estate Broker (Fusion Realty Group LLC), and has served as a court-appointed Trustee, Guardian, Personal Representative, Curator, Guardian ad Litem, and Administrator ad Litem.

§ xPublic Advocacy — Guardianship Reform
David A. Yergey III has served as a public advocate for reform of Florida's professional guardian oversight system. His involvement includes documented filings in contested guardianship proceedings, legislative advocacy, and the founding of Florida's only statewide nonprofit dedicated to guardianship support.
Rebecca Fierle / Steven Stryker Proceedings
In 2019, David A. Yergey III filed objections in the discharge proceedings involving Rebecca Fierle, a professional guardian whose conduct drew state and national attention. His filings were recognized in coverage by the Orlando Sentinel.
The death of Steven Stryker — who died while under Ms. Fierle's guardianship — led to her arrest by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement on February 10, 2020. The Fierle matter directly contributed to the passage of Florida HB 709 / SB 994, signed by Governor DeSantis on June 18, 2020 (Ch. 2020-35, Laws of Florida), which substantially amended Florida's professional guardian oversight statutes, including Fla. Stat. §§ 744.312, 744.3215, 744.334, 744.363, 744.367, 744.3675, and 744.446.
Florida Guardianship Support Network — Founding President
In recognition of the systemic vulnerabilities exposed in Florida's guardianship system, David A. Yergey III co-founded and serves as Founding President of the Florida Guardianship Support Network (flgsn.org), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing resources, support, and advocacy for individuals and families navigating Florida's guardianship system. The network has raised more than $700,000 in support of guardianship reform and family resources.
